Often hailed as ‘the windows of the soul’ many people seek cosmetic eyelid surgery (or eyelid correction) because during the aging process the region around your eyes shows the effects of ageing much sooner than other areas.
Upper eyelid surgery (upper blepharoplasty) is a cosmetic surgical procedure that removes fat deposits, excess tissue, or muscle from the upper eyelids to improve the appearance of the eyes. Blepharoplasty can be done to correct ptosis (sagging eyelids), remove fatty bulges around the eyes, and eliminate hanging skin from the eyelids. For people who feel that their eyes seem ‘hooded’, old or tired, upper eyelid surgery is a very effective procedure that can restore a more youthful appearance and can be performed alongside other facial cosmetic surgery procedures.
Upper eyelid surgery is a straightforward, commonly performed procedure Lower eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) is a cosmetic surgical procedure that removes fat deposits, excess tissue, or muscle from the eyelids to improve the appearance of the eyes. As you age, the skin around your eyes loses its elasticity and you may develop deep creases under your lower lids.
Your muscles in this area may also slacken so that any fat bulges forward and creates a “baggy” appearance. Lower eyelid surgery can remove the excess skin, fat, or both, from around your eyes to create a more youthful appearance. At Secret Surgery Ltd, we understand just how important it is for so many of our patients to feel good about the way they look and feel. The benefits of cosmetic eye surgery range from a refreshed appearance, more youthful appearance, to improved vision for some patients.
Am I a candidate for Eyelid Correction
People over 35 years of age are normally candidates for cosmetic eye surgery, though younger people may undergo blepharoplasty if they have droopy eyelids and/or large under-eye bags. Over half of all blepharoplasty patients are over 50 years old. It is not unusual for both men and women to undergo upper and lower eyelid surgery.
An upper eyelid operation may be suitable for you if you are bothered by:
Excess skin on the upper lid or under eye bags that sag or interferes with your vision
Excess skin on the upper lid that hides the eyelid skin above the lashes
Excessive wrinkling on the upper lid
A lower eyelid surgery operation may be suitable for you if you are bothered by:
Puffiness or bags under the lower lids
Excess skin and wrinkles on the lower lids
You could be considered for eye surgery if:
You are in good health physically and emotionally
Have realistic expectations about what eyelid surgery can and cannot achieve for you
Your skilled cosmetic surgeon will ask you about your health during the consultation. Make sure you tell him or her about any medical condition you have so that you and your surgeon can make the best choice prior to a cosmetic eye operation. Cosmetic Eye Surgery Procedure Steps
Cosmetic eye surgery recovery times will vary patient by patient and by the extent of the surgery performed. Healing time after surgery depends on a patient’s physical and emotional health and their response to surgery. The rate of recovery also depends on the quality of a patient’s after care which of course we pride ourselves on highly at Secret Surgery Ltd. You will be able to wear make up again after about two weeks, and return to sports and physical activities after three to four weeks. It is very important to avoid strong sunlight during your surgery recovery time, as the skin around the eyes will be even more sensitive than usual. Wear a sun cream with a very high SPF, sunglasses and hats for six to eight weeks after your upper eyelid surgery.
